To reach out to over 7 lakh people
Array of activities planned – Talking Doll Show, Street Play, Baul Music and Signature Campaign
Kolkata, September 28, 2011:PepsiCo India, country’s leading food and beverage business, is celebrating Durga Puja with its 'Be Aware, Be Safe' HIV AIDS awareness campaign. Driven by its global mission of ‘Performance with Purpose’, PepsiCo is using the festive occasion of Durga Puja to spread awareness around HIV/AIDS through the Puja Pandals at Deshapriya Park, Mudiali, Ballygunge Cultural & Northern Park (Bhawanipur). Apart from the presence at these Puja Pandals, there will also be a mobile van around three pandals near the Frito-Lay plant in Sankrail at Howrah district.
This initiative is targeted towards generating mass awareness around HIV/AIDS and the stigma-discrimination attached with the illness. The event will run from Shasti to Nabami (2nd Oct to 5th Oct 2011) and will see myriad events including sessions like Talking Doll Show, Baul songs, street play by plant employees, experience sharing by HIV Positive Volunteers, Spot Quiz on basics of HIV/AIDS, distribution of leaflets and red ribbons. A signature campaign will also run at the venues, where visitors will be encouraged to pledge their commitment towards prevention of HIV/AIDS. The events will be led by HIV affected individuals with extensive support from PepsiCo India.
At the occasion, Partha Gangopadhyay, VP Plant Operations (Kolkata Foods Plant) – PepsiCo India said, "This is a pioneering initiative of PepsiCo's 'Performance with Purpose' commitment. We started this campaign around Durga Puja last year and received an encouraging response. This year, we are taking it to the next level and intend to reach out to approximately 7 lakh people with support from West Bengal State AIDS Prevention & Control Society and HIV positive volunteers. A festival like Durga Puja is a unique opportunity to reach out the masses for spreading awareness. The cheery spirit amongst people makes them realize the importance of their lives and the desire to spread the joy. We hope that people will be benefited by visiting our stalls and supporting us on fighting against HIV/AIDS."
PepsiCo has been conducting HIV AIDS awareness programs since 2005 and was the recipient of the prestigious President’s Corporate Award for Business Response to HIV/AIDS in 2009. This initiative is being organised in collaboration with West Bengal State AIDS Prevention & Control Society (WBSAP&CS) and People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).
