The bowlers were taken through a unique three pronged training program at the Gatorade Centre for Pace Excellence (GCPE) under the tutelage of Mr. Sekar, Mr. Akram and Gatorade's Master Trainers between July 15 th and August 3rd.
Explaining the difference between the training methodology and structure at the Gatorade Centre for Pace Excellence and other such academies, Mr. Sandeep Walunj, VP-Innovation of PepsiCo and the architect of GCPE, said "Having considered the models of all major pace bowling training centers around the world, we have zeroed down on a four-pronged process - 1) a sincere and objective talent hunt across major Indian cities called Gatorade Pacers, which insures high-quality input into GCPE 2) Correcting the action of Pacers from a bio-mechanical perspective which helps to minimize strain and injuries 3) Strengthening the basics of Wrist Position, In and Out Swing, Variations and How to Bowl to a Plan 4) Personalized Hydration and Fitness program so as to ensure that the Pacers bowl at the best from the first over of the day to the last over of the day. The last one - Personalized Hydration Strategy - leading to optimal body preparedness has made a major difference to the performance of major teams like the Australian Cricket Team. Gatorade has over 42 years of experience in helping World's leading athletes perform 'Stronger for Longer' and we are proud to be a catalyst in bringing advanced sports science to India"
The Gatorade Centre for Pace Excellence has contracted the pace bowling legend Wasim Akram to be the Coach - Bowling Variation Strategy. Mr. T A Sekar, the ex-Head Coach of MRF Pace Foundation is the Chief Consultant - Bowling Technique and India's Leading Sports Fitness Expert Ramji Srinivasan is the Chief Fitness Advisor and international expertise in Sports Science and Training will certainly be an unbeatable combination.
Mr. Wasim Akram, the Sultan of Swing, said, "India has never had dearth of talent but initiatives like Gatorade Pacers that spots and scientifically trains the talent will go a long way in getting India's Gen-Next of Pace Bowling ready. This initiative is special to me for another reason - it also inculcates the culture of Sports Science in the players at the young age; which I believe is critical if one were to consistently deliver at one's best over a long period of time. Optimal Hydration is a strong performance differentiator once you have similar skill and fitness levels. We learnt this the hard way, I am happy initiatives like this are exposing young students, coaches and administrators to the importance of optimal hydration."
Mr. T A Sekar said "While India today boosts of match winning pacers, it is critical that we keep spotting and developing that talent at grassroots level to get next generation ready. It takes a lot of efforts, from a variety of experts to shape a talent into a good fast bowler. Basis my experience, we have put together a complete fast bowling program at the Gatorade Centre for Pace Excellence which will teach correct technique, bowling variations, individual fitness programs but most importantly will equip the bowler perform effectively for longer duration so that they can have long successful and injury free careers"
"Wasim and I reviewed the progress and we are very satisfied with the results. The bowlers too are very happy. The next camp will be conducted in December. We are giving them home work till then. I am delighted to take it to the next level with the help of subject experts like Wasim and Ramji"
