New Delhi, March 24, 2011: PepsiCo India, country’s leading food and beverage business, today announced the appointment of Samik Basu as Chief People Officer - India Region. Samik takes over from Pavan Bhatia, who after a successful stint of four years, has moved into a larger role as Chief People Officer – PepsiCo Greater China Region.
Speaking on the appointment, Manu Anand, Chairman, PepsiCo India Region said “PepsiCo’s people strategy has been a key contributor to its success. Samik joined PepsiCo in 2001 as Head of HR for Frito-Lay India, where he played a key role in leading the people agenda. Over the years, he has served in a variety of leadership roles in PepsiCo across Asia and Asia Pacific Regions. Samik was the HR Director, North and South Asia for PepsiCo’s Asia Pacific Region in his last assignment. Prior to this, he served as the HR Director for Asia Pacific’s South East Asia Business Unit based in Bangkok. In that role he was responsible for both Foods and Beverages across Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Pacific Islands, Brunei, Laos, Cambodia and Mongolia.
Prior to joining PepsiCo, Samik worked with Unilever India for 8 years and with VIP Industries for 4 years. He holds a BS in Economics with Honors from Presidency College of Calcutta University and an MBA in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations from XLRI, Jamshedpur.
Pavan has been a key contributor to the growth of PepsiCo India. He incorporated some of the best in class practices that have been adopted in several PepsiCo markets across the globe. Pavan has also been a key driver of the talent sustainability strategy in the India Region. Under his leadership, the India HR team won several awards and recognitions including the prestigious TERI Award for HIV awareness, and the Helen Keller Award for Diversity and Inclusion.
