New Delhi, Feb 10, 2007: Gatorade - the no.1 sports drink in the world, in association with MRF Pace Academy, today launched its exciting school programme ’’Gatorade Pacers’’ to recognise India’s budding pace bowlers. The initiative is an earnest attempt towards recognising and nurturing the budding pace bowlers in the country in the age group of 12-18 years. The association also reinforces Gatorade’s strong credentials in the field of rehydration that is essential for fast bowlers, who lose considerable amounts of salts and water while on field.
The school programme will kickstart with ‘Zonals’ being organized in Chennai and Kolkata on the 10th and 11th of Feb 2007, providing the participants a platform to showcase their skills and be judged by a selector (associated with the National Cricket Academy and MRF Pace Foundation). The ‘Zonals’ will see the selection of 20 of the fastest bowlers in each city.
The excitement will build up as a total of 8 potential fast bowlers will go to Mumbai in the month of April / early May. Out of these, two students will be selected to receive a two week session from internationally acclaimed Australian pace bowler, Denis Lilly, in October 2007. This will be undertaken at the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai.
Speaking of the initiative, Ms. Geetu Verma – Executive Vice President, New Business Market Unit, PepsiCo said." We are pleased to announce the launch of ‘Gatorade Pacers’ which will witnesss the discovery of promising pace bowlers in our country. Our strong association with Cricket enables us to recognise the need for our country to have fast pace bowlers. It is our endeavour to provide the platform to the deserving selected participants to further hone their skills and realise their potential’’.
