New Delhi, Tuesday 22, 2008: : Gatorade, the World's No. 1 sports drink, today announced the winners of the 2008 edition of its Pace Bowling Talent Hunt - Gatorade Pacers in the presence of India's leading pace bowler S. Sreesanth. The 10 winners are -

The lucky winners will receive once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be trained at the prestigious MRF Pace Foundation through a comprehensive training program designed by the legendary Australian pace bowler Dennis Lillie. There will be two training camps- one in January and the second one in June. Deepak Chaudhary, Shardul Thakur, Vishal Singh and P Magizhendran will receive the training in the January camp whereas Wahid Syed, Aditya Dole, Samad Fallah, David Mathias, Rahul Sharma and R Suthesh will be trained in the June camp.
Apart from making it possible for grass-root level aspiring Pacers to access the world-class facilities at the MRF Pace Foundation, the re-hydration expert Gatorade aims at bringing the best of sports science and training to the art of pace bowling in India. Optimal hydration is very critical for fast bowlers since they lose considerable amounts of salts and water while on field, which could lead to cramping, muscle spasms and eventual breakdown in performance.
Even though the camp started with an aim to select five winners, however, looking at the great talent, the selectors decided to choose 10 winners out of the short listed 18 finalists.

It was extremely difficult for all of us to choose the winners as all the finalists were equally brilliant. Present at the occasion, one of India's best pace bowlers Sreesanth, said, "Gatorade Pacers is an extremely encouraging platform for an aspiring pace bowler. It is heartening to see the potential pace bowling talent of our country being unearthed through the steady efforts of Gatorade and MRF Pace Foundation. I would like to congratulate the winners and wish them all the best for a bright future."
Vishal Singh, one of the winners said, "I am really excited today and can now see my dreams coming true. Through Gatorade Pacers initiative, I am looking forward to harness my bowling abilities and become a better and faster bowler".
David Mathias selected Under 22 category said, "Through Gatorade Pacers initiative, I am looking forward to hone my bowling skills and become a better and faster bowler. I also hope that this platform will train me to play top level cricket in future. The support and coaching received from my Club 'Swastik Union' and KSCA have been phenomenal in making me reach till here".
'Gatorade Pacers' 2008 edition saw 3785 aspirants from over 1080 schools, colleges, Sports Clubs as well as State Cricket Associations across India in the regional rounds. These rounds were held for u-15 & u-22 talent across the six cities of Hyderabad, Mumbai, Jamshedpur, Chennai, Delhi and Bangalore.

The 2007 leg of Gatorade Pacers had seen than more 1350 participants from the four metros and while one of the national winners of 2007 -Ravi Kant Sharma - is now a part of the Rajasthan Ranji Team, the other one -P K Dharma -is a part of the U-17 Tamil Nadu Team.
Eminent coaches and selectors associated with MRF Pace Foundation such as Mr T A Sekar, Mr Suru Nayak, Mr Uday Gupte, Mr Vivek Razdan, Mr Aiyappa, Mr N Vinay Kumar and Mr Abbey Kuruvilla evaluated the participants during the selection rounds. The selection criteria involved measuring bowling speed with a Speed Gun, Accuracy as measured by line judges and the chief selector's assessment of the participants bowling action and potential. Two additional parameters -fielding skills and fitness were also included in the national finals round.
